Nicola & Malcolm

We booked Curious Robin Films to capture our wedding day after watching just one of their wedding’s highlight reels. In fact, it was before we had even set our wedding date, we loved the film so much! An excellent service was provided by all from start to finish, so easy to work with pre and post wedding (and a joy to be with on the big day itself!). We met Rob in the build up to the wedding to enable him to get a feel for what we were looking for and he captured it perfectly, with the final product being delivered in a wonderfully unique wooden box.

Professional (but personable) throughout the whole process, you can tell Rob takes great pride in what he does, keeping in regular contact during the editing process post wedding to ensure we were happy, with even minor edits catered for. Thoroughly recommend using Curious Robin Films to anyone who is considering using a videographer for their wedding, you will not be disappointed. We couldn’t sing Rob’s praises more.

Drumtochty Castle // Scottish Castle, Aberdeenshire

So much of our style for films relies on building the atmosphere of the wedding day and we spend the early morning before we film a single member of the bridal party filming one of the main characters in a couple’s wedding film; the venue. There are few more wonderful than Drumtochty Castle in Aberdeenshire.

Drumtochty Castle Wedding

Nestled in a hidden valley of its own Drumtochty Castle boasts an incredible private church, a ballroom and its own herd of deer. The long drive way leading up from the chapel rises through the woodland until you emerge out into the light and the open vista of the main castle frontage.

It’s more sturdy than the normal Scottish baronial style you find in most Victorian mansions, but the circular turrets and mini-battlements make for a commanding presence.

Inside the decor is eclectic and unique. Also a wee bit odd at times. I’m not sure why there is a portrait of Nathan Bedford-Forrest hanging in the entrance hallway,  but there you have it.

But the whole of Drumtochty Castle feels very much lived in and comfortable. Certainly the sort of place you can imagine returning to after a day on the hill and warming your toes by the fire. That said, it pulls out the magnificent as well as the homely, with a spectacular ballroom, with floor to ceiling windows that look out towards the landscaped grounds beyond.

The grounds and wider estate themselves are beautiful. If you’re wondering where you’ll have photographs taken, there is a picture perfect little lake with a bridge down below the castle.

It even has lilies which would have Monet enthusiastically cracking out the brushes and easel.

Couples and filmmakers (& photographers) looking to get some truly epic shots can take advantage of the chance to get a lift in the king of all vehicles (the estate Land Rover Defender 110) up into the hills surrounding the castle. Here, you not only find wide vistas but a resident herd of deer.

Yet for all the splendour, it is possibly the Hogwartian little church which is our favourite part of the estate. It is just about as close to perfection as you’d wish to get.
