Initially I wasn’t going to have a videographer at our wedding….I thought we could do without and I am genuinely so grateful that I changed my mind as I was completely wrong!! I was concerned that a camera poking at my face all day would stress me (I am not great at getting my photo taken and being on camera). However, Rob at Curious Robin films made the experience so calm and unobtrusive, I hardly realised I was being filmed which made the experience all so easy and comfortable.
Our wedding video still has me in tears almost 4 years later, every single time I watch it. After all the planning and organising we went through to get it right, Rob really captured the essence of our day in a way that no photograph could. With the perfect choice of music and even the details like using the old vintage camera. Every time I watch it I feel like I’m transported back to that day and experiencing it all over again and for that exact reason, I just can’t recommend Curious Robin Films highly enough.

Nicola & Malcolm’s Wedding Film | Ballogie House, Aberdeenshire
In August 2017, we travelled North to Ballogie House, Aberdeenshire, to create the wedding film of Malcolm & Nicola’s wedding. Read all about their day below and if you would like us to capture your day, drop us a line.
Tell us about your day; what were your expectations, how did you feel, how did it all go?
It’s difficult to know where to start when describing what was the best day of our lives without sounding cheesy and ensuring that we pass on just how much it all meant to us.
How did you meet and become engaged?
We met around 6 and a half years ago through a former colleague and mutual friends. Our paths crossed on multiple occasions before finally getting together on the 4th of August 2012. Who knew that 5 years from that day would be our wedding day after a beautiful proposal in Ibiza.
Where did you find inspiration for your wedding?
In terms of looking for inspiration for our wedding we looked through magazines and Pinterest and actually found decision making pretty simple. The colour scheme of blue, creams and white tied in with the venue and we loved the simplicity of the marquee so chose to keep decorations to a minimum. I can’t express how wonderful the suppliers we worked with were, we would have been so lost without them. Our wedding planner, Emma, was an unbelievable support always ready with advice. Karla, who provided our stationery, is just amazing – she totally understood our tastes and what she produced for us brings us so much happiness! Our caterers, Entier, went over and above. The food was exceptional and the service even better – so personal. It was working with all these wonderful people, and many more, who really helped us tie everything together.
Why did you choose your venue/s?
We often spoke about what style of wedding we would have and where we would have it but as soon as we were engaged it was clear to us that what mattered most was having the people we love there. We hoped for a place we could all stay together, a chance for everyone to have a break and relax and an opportunity for us to spoil our loved ones. As soon as we saw Ballogie House – even mid-renovation – we knew it was the place for us. In fact, all it took was the drive up to the house. There is such a peaceful, cosy atmosphere at Ballogie and it was as if they had bottled everything we could have asked for for our wedding celebrations.
We wanted to keep our wedding quite simple. We had hoped it would be all about family sharing the time together, ensuring everyone was comfortable, relaxed and that the food was amazing. Thanks to all involved in organising the day this was easily achieved. Our expectations were exceeded and the overriding feeling throughout the day was that of love! We were on Cloud 9 all day and for a long time after.
Why did to choose to have a wedding film?
It had never really occurred to me to have a videographer film our wedding day. I always thought photography would be enough but after seeing just one of Rob’s highlight reels thanks to a friend, I booked him before we had even officially set a wedding date. That wedding film, of a beautiful couple I didn’t even know, made me feel so many emotions and captured so many details that I knew it was probably one of the most important parts of the wedding for me.
I cannot express how important the people around you on the day are. It was an absolute JOY to spend our day with our videographer and photographer.I have so many special memories from the day and a heap of them include these wonderful human beings. To say they performed an outstanding job would be an understatement but it was their company on the day we loved most.
What was your favourite bit of your wedding film?
Everything!!! It’s the way you tied it all in together with what was being said, the way you entirely captured what we had hoped for in our day. The way it was filmed as if you could actually view the way we remember the day, as if the film is a memory itself. The simplicity. You brought it right down to our core values, which you picked up on without us even having to tell you. The way you took it back at the end to just Malc and I… I could go on but it really is way more than we could have imagined!
Any tips for future Brides and Grooms?
My advice to other couples getting married would be to enjoy every second of every aspect of the wedding, planning included. It all passes so quickly and time can easily be taken up by unnecessary stress. Enjoy the project together and always bear in mind it’s the bit where you get married that counts most. That was the most special part for us.
Even the part that ‘went wrong’ for us – the unexpected guest in the form of the beloved family dog- I wouldn’t change, in fact I am delighted it happened. It’s the getting married that counts.
