Initially I wasn’t going to have a videographer at our wedding….I thought we could do without and I am genuinely so grateful that I changed my mind as I was completely wrong!! I was concerned that a camera poking at my face all day would stress me (I am not great at getting my photo taken and being on camera). However, Rob at Curious Robin films made the experience so calm and unobtrusive, I hardly realised I was being filmed which made the experience all so easy and comfortable.

Our wedding video still has me in tears almost 4 years later, every single time I watch it. After all the planning and organising we went through to get it right, Rob really captured the essence of our day in a way that no photograph could. With the perfect choice of music and even the details like using the old vintage camera. Every time I watch it I feel like I’m transported back to that day and experiencing it all over again and for that exact reason, I just can’t recommend Curious Robin Films highly enough.

Why Love Actually encapsulates our wedding film style

Why Love Actually encapsulates our wedding film style

We often struggle to articulate exactly what it is that makes our wedding films unique. Every filmmaker is unique, it can’t really be any other way. Even if you are inspired to use similar tools, your eye for a shot and your choices in the edit are determined by a lifetime of personal experience. So […]

Forget the kit, focus on moments / creating simple wedding videos

OK, so I am as much of a kid in a sweet shop as anyone else when it comes to kit. Left to my own devices and with a wad of cash I could buy a shed load of equipment to make my films look more cinematic, possibly. The thing is, most kit for filming […]

Five star review from Aberdeenshire wedding clients

Five star review from Aberdeenshire wedding clients

We were chuffed to bits to receive a five star review from Nicola & Malcolm recently. When they told us that we were the first thing they booked (ahead of venue even) we were feeling a wee bit of pressure to perform. That’s good though, and we’re delighted that they’re pleased with the final result. […]

Would you like to invest in one of our limited edition wedding films? We have decided to close off bookings for 2018 soon. 2019 is filling up fast and 2020 is already taking enquiries. Our philosophy is to do no more than 15 weddings per year and preferably slightly less, in order to ensure that […]

One thing we often see advertised and truly marvel at the ability of companies to produce are same day edits. The idea of filming a wedding, which usually finished for me at 10pm, then in a dazed state sitting down and sifting 2 x full days of footage, and bringing that to some sort of […]

The highlight of highlights – Wedding Film “reel”

We’ve been in the process of separating all the non-wedding content out of this site (our new commercial brand is Simmerdim – go check it out) and last to be updated is the first thing anyone sees – our highlight banner reel. We’re not really into creating a showreel for the wedding company, as we […]

Wedding Highlight Films – the main event, not an afterthought

Our wedding package is built around the wedding highlight films. 5-ish minutes in length, they are far harder and more time consuming than any other part. French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal wrote in 1657; Je n’ai fait celle-ci plus longue que parce que je n’ai pas eu le loisir de la faire plus courte. […]

New wedding highlight film – Gerry & Clare’s Edinburgh Wedding

Posted by on Feb 12, 2018 in Weddings | No Comments

Monday morning and we’ve a new wedding highlight film to share with you. Gerry & Clare got married in St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh followed by a reception at Shieldhill Castle, near Biggar, in the Scottish Borders. It’s probably one of the most logistically difficult weddings I’ve ever had to shoot, but that was a by-product […]

Wedding films – what does a second shooter do?

Wedding films – what does a second shooter do?

You’ll see it on our contracts and in general chat, but the term second shooter seems a bit vague. In fact, prior to commencing upon a career in filmmaking, the term second shooter would most likely conjure up conspiracy theories about the assassination of JFK. Thankfully, its a lot less dramatic than that. No grassy […]
