Initially I wasn’t going to have a videographer at our wedding….I thought we could do without and I am genuinely so grateful that I changed my mind as I was completely wrong!! I was concerned that a camera poking at my face all day would stress me (I am not great at getting my photo taken and being on camera). However, Rob at Curious Robin films made the experience so calm and unobtrusive, I hardly realised I was being filmed which made the experience all so easy and comfortable.

Our wedding video still has me in tears almost 4 years later, every single time I watch it. After all the planning and organising we went through to get it right, Rob really captured the essence of our day in a way that no photograph could. With the perfect choice of music and even the details like using the old vintage camera. Every time I watch it I feel like I’m transported back to that day and experiencing it all over again and for that exact reason, I just can’t recommend Curious Robin Films highly enough.

Wedding Highlight Films – the main event, not an afterthought

Our wedding package is built around the wedding highlight films. 5-ish minutes in length, they are far harder and more time consuming than any other part. French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal wrote in 1657; Je n’ai fait celle-ci plus longue que parce que je n’ai pas eu le loisir de la faire plus courte. […]

Getting technical with wedding film aesthetics

Getting technical with wedding film aesthetics

This week we’ve been diving into the technicalities of our wedding film aesthetics. As you’ll know from our previous post, we’ve just upgraded to a new camera. The Sony a7sii is more capable than the Canon DSLRs we shot with in many areas but one novel one is its dynamic range and picture profiles. We […]

Continual reinvestment in our product – new camera

Exciting times as we upgrade to a new camera for our wedding film services. When people take the cost of wedding videography at face value they often find it very expensive. Yet, when considered that it may take up to two weeks to full edit a wedding and we also have all our own business […]

New wedding highlight film – Gerry & Clare’s Edinburgh Wedding

Monday morning and we’ve a new wedding highlight film to share with you. Gerry & Clare got married in St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh followed by a reception at Shieldhill Castle, near Biggar, in the Scottish Borders. It’s probably one of the most logistically difficult weddings I’ve ever had to shoot, but that was a by-product […]

Wedding films – what does a second shooter do?

Wedding films – what does a second shooter do?

You’ll see it on our contracts and in general chat, but the term second shooter seems a bit vague. In fact, prior to commencing upon a career in filmmaking, the term second shooter would most likely conjure up conspiracy theories about the assassination of JFK. Thankfully, its a lot less dramatic than that. No grassy […]

Protecting precious footage – data security for wedding film footage

Loss or corruption of footage. It is the nightmare of any wedding filmmaker. It literally keeps us awake at night and has us break out in cold sweats. A couple have planned a wedding for years. They’ve entrusted us to capture the most important moments of the most important day in their lives together. Until […]

Top 10 Christmas Movies – as determined by a 30-something bloke

Christmas, the season of good cheer, feasting, terrible office secret Santa and evergreen movies. Here at the Robin’s Nest, we are massive Christmas movies fans. Mainly because they a.) are usually joyous; and b.) often hugely profound (well some are). They’ve even perhaps subtly influenced our editing when it comes to winter weddings. So here, […]

Everyone has a phone and a boundless array of apps these days, so what are my top 10 apps for a wedding videographer? This list is neither exhaustive, well informed or particularly novel. You may well already use all of these or none, or something better, but these are what work for me. What will […]

Scottish Borders Wedding

Scottish Borders Wedding

Last month we were fortunate to film our first Scottish Borders Wedding, at the beautifully situated Shieldhill Castle near Biggar. Although I have second shot for others at weddings down near Melrose, it was a joy to be able to exercise my own creative style in the lush surroundings. It was a mixed bag weather […]

Dunkirk – an absolute masterpiece of cinema

Dunkirk, the most anticipated film of the summer, seems to be something of a marmite film for the critics. But we’re going to lay our cards on the table and say that it is one of the finest films made in the last decade. Marmite film? It seems that this film either grabs you, or […]
