Initially I wasn’t going to have a videographer at our wedding….I thought we could do without and I am genuinely so grateful that I changed my mind as I was completely wrong!! I was concerned that a camera poking at my face all day would stress me (I am not great at getting my photo taken and being on camera). However, Rob at Curious Robin films made the experience so calm and unobtrusive, I hardly realised I was being filmed which made the experience all so easy and comfortable.

Our wedding video still has me in tears almost 4 years later, every single time I watch it. After all the planning and organising we went through to get it right, Rob really captured the essence of our day in a way that no photograph could. With the perfect choice of music and even the details like using the old vintage camera. Every time I watch it I feel like I’m transported back to that day and experiencing it all over again and for that exact reason, I just can’t recommend Curious Robin Films highly enough.

Just before Christmas 2016 we were delighted to film Richard & Nicola’s Scottish winter wedding at Craigsanquhar House, near Cupar.

Sum up your wedding day in 3 words for us?

Magical, Merry, Memorable

How did you meet and become engaged?

We met online (match.com – see mum it does work!)…We had our first date in a trail of Edinburgh pubs/bars, with follow-ups dates at Edinburgh zoo and Cameron House on Loch Lomond. Loch Lomond became a special place in our hearts and this was the setting for where I proposed to Nicola 3 years later (despite an unfortunately timed phone call from a car salesman!)

Where did you find inspiration for your Scottish winter wedding?

Quite simply – Pinterest! That place is a treasure trove of wedding ideas! It also helped that Nicola had been planning her wedding day since she was 10 years old! (She even had a hidden wedding Pinterest board before we got engaged, bunny boiler!)

Why did you choose your venue?

We fell in love with Craigsanquhar the moment we first saw it. The venue is stunning without being pretentious and had a wonderful Scottish country charm.  Fiona the wedding planner was beyond helpful and accommodating, along with all of the other staff that we came across. Finally, there was an added bonus of 4 stunning on-site villa’s that could accommodate all of our guests that were travelling from afar. This made it an ideal location to make it a wedding weekend celebration rather than just the day. Oh, and the bar prices were cheap!

Why did to choose to have a video of your day?

Wedding videography was one of the most important things to us. We wanted a means to re-live the day for ourselves and our loved ones into the future. It also gives us an insight into the parts of the day that we didn’t get to experience. It really is the best way to capture the magic of the day and all of the missed moments with our guests.

What was your favourite part in your highlight film?

Both Nicola and I love the entire clip! However, both of us had a huge smile when everything builds up to the fireworks scene. It was a really memorable part of day, all of our loved ones on the front lawn, with sparklers, enjoying the fireworks and getting merry on mulled wine! You captured it perfectly.

Any tips for future Brides and Grooms?

Weddings cost a lot of money. Our biggest tip would be to at least make a weekend of it! It means you can get all the ‘thanks’ and formalities out of the way on the Friday evening leaving you to relax and fully enjoy the entire wedding day. It also gives your guests time to mingle and get to know one another the night before, again giving the wedding day a more relaxed feel.

Spend time on all of the ‘little touches’ that can really make a wedding day, a lot of these things can be DIY ideas on Pinterest; Personalised wedding favours, sparklers to go with the fireworks, Christmas crackers for a winter wedding, candle lanterns/fairy lights etc…

Remember to carefully listen to the lyrics of any songs you chose for your wedding day, you’ll be surprised at how many are inappropriate!

Finally, entertainment for your guests is crucial. We had a fantastic wedding band, a vintage photobooth and simple Fujifilm polaroid camera (just remember to get plenty of film – we were surprised how popular this was!)

Any unexpected moments in your day?

Not many, Nicola had everything planned to a T! Maybe with the exception of her garter falling down to her ankle during the vows…
